The Root2Fork consortium is proud to announce the official launch of its three-year
project on 1 April 2026. Funded by the Agroecology Partnership,
our project “Accelerating
the agroecological transition with multi-strata agroforestry systems, from root to fork”
brings together partners across Europe to demonstrate how integrating woody and herbaceous
perennials into orchard systems can regenerate soil, secure farmer livelihoods, and build
more resilient food supply chains.

The project operates through four Living Labs in Portugal, Germany, Finland, and Norway,
where msAFS systems are being developed and tested in close collaboration
with farmers, retailers, chefs, and local communities. From planting kale and rocket beneath
apple and quince orchards to applying perennial seaweed as land-based fertiliser, Root2Fork
connects innovation across ecosystems, from the deepest roots to the fork on the table.

Over the next three years, Root2Fork will focus on consolidating agroforestry designs,
assessing ecosystem services and economic performance, and bridging the gap between science
and practice, policy, and society.

We look forward to sharing progress as the work unfolds. Follow along for updates
from the field.
